I think this leans more to 'happy hardcore' than to trance. You know... like Dune - Can't Stop Raving.

Cool music though. When I was like 13 year old I gave my friend a CD filled with RMB music downloaded from Kazaa. Cool birthday present right?

Yeah well its Hard Trance, the similarity is there and I know what you mean. On Discogs its listed as a hard trance release. Kick is too soft for happy hardcore ... but genres are always a big thing. My first trance track that I produced was supposed to be "normal 90s trance" and then some guy came and said "dude thats hard trance at its best" 😅 Well yeah, alright! Genres are difficult.

'Redemption' was released via 'Low Spirit Recordings' (home of Westbam, Marusha, Three 'N One) so yes, it sounds very ravey in German terms, but it was called 'Trance' back in the days, thats sure!

Last summer I played the track at a private party (maybe at 5am) and some kid came to me with the question: whats this? I spontaneously answered: my childhood.. The kid said: what a great childhood!.) Thats my strongest memory with the tracks..

'Redemption' is maybe my favourite 'RMB' track of all times, btw I was never a 'RMB' fanboy, his melodies are not for my ears!

Many people claim that hard trance only emerged after the initial wave of traditional trance music, but it’s not really true. In fact, early trance records – most of which came from Germany – were quite often on the harder side as they frequently borrowed elements from neighbouring genres and styles such as acid, rave, techno, and even happy hardcore.

This track from RMB certainly fits into this pattern to an extent. It has some of the hypnotic qualities of a proper trance record, it has a melody-driven structure with some interesting layering and development, and it also has the energy typically associated with the genre. But yeah, in all honesty, it's a tough one to categorize because it may lean into the rave / happy hardcore styles a bit much due to the combination of tempo, how vocals are used, the lack of a substantial buildup, etc. (unlike other records like Meteor Seven - Signs of Life or Paranoia X - Party Programm that still feel proper trance despite their rave / happy hardcore influences).

I think this leans more to 'happy hardcore' than to trance.
Yeah well its Hard Trance
