naming a track with the title that's heavily associated with another (classic) one is a bad taste

the tracks themselves are nothing exciting either

Thanks for listening. Super stoked to have these two finally released. Started work on them 10 years ago and left them dormant because... life, work, kids... and finally decided to polish them off. The name 'Galaxus' was due to a series of 10 'space' theme related tunes I started like 12 years ago. I can only assume you're referring to Moonman - Galaxia? I honestly hadn't even thought about it until I saw your comment. Names are going to get re-used eventually, no ill-intent at all.

he might also be refering to probspot's blueberry.

in either case if thats all the criticism one can muster i'd say its a win.

Enjoyed both of these. Not sure which one I prefer just yet, need a few more listens. Blueberry is a bit happy for my taste with the melody maybe, but has some cool sounds and FX used, and is nice in many ways. Julian might be right, a bit of extra momentum/pace could have been nice. Very typical Borderline style release though, where its not really having its own identity from a lot of the other tracks released on the label. Really waiting for the more daring and creative ideas to shine through on the label.

Congrats on the release @scottrichardson

Oh snap I hadn't even thought of that. Bugger. I named it Blueberry because for some reason, the synesthesia in my brain saw Blueberries when I was producing the song!

the only thing I would have changed is few BPM faster. 😉

Ah yes! Galaxus could definitely work at 138. Originally I had a chuggy baseline pattern so the slower tempo worked well with that, but it's also for Borderline and wanted to stay within that mid tempo range. I also am trying not to produce more 138/140 material which is already a saturated market, so to speak. As a DJ, I always struggle to find material between 134 and 137 that can be used as transitional material from deeper/proggy stuff up to the big euphoric bangers.

Well, I do understand why one would say this. As there are some releases that you might consider "typical Activa/Borderline sound".

But on the other hand... the recent Mac & Monday tune is very different sounding. And dare I say my own one wasn't standard either. What about Coredata who has a more... undergroundy industrial sound, very different too. And I don't think the Aerium one sounds "cliché Borderline" either. Marcos - Oddesy, also very different with it's synths and ideas. Allan Morrow with his kinda "oldschool rave" type of sound (Fiji Remix, Willingness).

100% those are all great examples. Borderline has some tremendous, unique tunes in its catalogue. Definitely something to strive for - being more unique.

You are right Jan there definitely are some tracks that have their own identity. The Coredata releases mostly, and the other tracks you mentioned are fair too. I'd still say the differences are not that strong though, just the synth used for the hook. No really crazy baselines, sampling, non-conventional synths, groovey rhythms...

What frustrates me is that I hear the radio edits and I know that's essentially the entire idea and journey of the track. The addition 3-5 mins the extended versions are unlikely to bring anything new to the table, something that takes you be surprise or changes direction.

I may come across overly critical, as I think Borderline is awesome, and buy majority of their tracks, but does feel a bit too safe a lot of the time. I'm more sensitive to that considering how safe everything has been for years.

you and @Bobby Summa should have a chat heh,

he's our forum's resident synesthesiac
Ha! Blueberry , @scottrichardson . So I scrolled through this post and came accross your synesthesia for a sound. Ie blueberry . I put on the first track posted above, and at 6.5 seconds something interesting popped into my mind. Like a blueberry (but not exactly ) but Kinda exploding. That squashy electronic bit-crusher sound. Is that what’s being referred to here? Synesthesia is a nice addition to life I’d say. I’m just glad I have the sound to vision one. I think it’s the most tangible type. ( but then I would as I’ve never considered it strange whatsoever). Only discovered hardly any people see sound involuntarily a few years ago . I’d even read about Aphex twin having it and i thought, wow that sounds good. Then later realised it’s what I’ve always been automatically doing without choice. I’m 47 and only discovered 5 or so years ago. How about yourself? (May need a different post for synesthesia- don’t want to annoy the admins 😉. Have a pleasant day. Loving those sounds in your tracks. Congratulations on a fine release. That bit crushed ‘blueberry’ as I now see it can’t seem to get it out of my head. I’m not even sure that’s the sound you meant though . 🤦‍♂️ Cheers 🙂 😀

edit: now playing 2nd track ( called blueberry, which I only saw revealed once I clicked it). I’m Smiling very much lol

Ooooh that tracks, Great! That melody that starts near the beginning. Noice! And the subtle change of notes gave my synesthesia an interesting rise in their dancing pattern! Yep love this track!

Then that windy pluck at 3.30 ish looks beautiful and sounds beautiful. I won’t continue my synesthesia descriptions. Don’t want to subject innocent folk to that lol. Love this sweet track tho. 👌

Hey Bobby, many thanks for taking the time to have a listen, and am so glad you got something out of the tunes! Hah yes it's a strange concept and sensation isn't it? But for me, I think blueberries were the overall conglomeration of the sounds combined during the part with the windy pluck, the vocal chops and the arp synth in the background.
