It wouldn't surprise me if we have petrol prices at $229 per litre in 10 years from now. There is like median difference of at least 50 cents and up to $1.20 differences per litres on some days it's just getting ridiculous.
In the US, if gas prices *weren't* subsidized, gas would cost $15-20/gallon. That would be 3.64 - 4.86 euro per liter.
The true cost of gasoline is one of the big reasons we should all be switching to electric as soon as possible, once it is affordable to do so and charging infrastructure catches up.

For context, regular 87-octane gas at the nearest gas station to me is $3.50/gal, which is more than four times cheaper its "real" cost.

Yeah it’s absurd. I’m actually thinking of starting up making bio-diesel in my garage at this point.
Nah m8, unless you really want the sound and rumbling of the engine, you should consider driving electric. I don't care which brand (and you can clearly afford some nice rides), but I think that's the simplest way to future-proof your transportation. Gas will eventually become a luxury, unfortunately. We'll definitely see the transition happen during our lifetimes.

Edit: and this isn't necessarily coming from a liberal or conservative pov

I have a lease electric m8, Peugeot.

doesn’t compare to my rumblin ford transit camper van ;)

also: as you well know, I don’t trust big gov in cahoots with big buss and their “utopian plans for the entire planet” so I’ll remain as independent of that as I possibly can for as long as I can A ;)

It's good to have options. How are you liking the Peugeot? I don't see those often in the US.

You can make the argument that switching to electric makes you independent of war-torn Middle Eastern countries. Plus, you can probably install solar in your home (idk if Dutch laws allow it) and basically have free miles.
Sadly, we still don't have several types of EVs, and your van is one of them. It'll be a while before we get one of those accessible to the public :/

The E208 is ok.. it doesn’t drive/ pull up as fast as a gasoline or diesel and can do about 200 km on a single charge.. but it gets the job done for home to work &groceries.

I actually have around 25 panels on my roof so yeah I can practically drive for free, but it’s not the convinience that makes me still own the diesel transit I have… plus like said, i can just make diesel in my garage if I want too 🤷‍♂️

to me a car is 3 things:
- radical freedom of movement
- radical privacy
- utility in transport

given the trend on how new (ev) cars are being churned full of tracking, listening and correcting software and given the still sub-par range (couple of jerrycans and I can drive all the way to Casablanca without a gas station stop) I have a better feeling owning that then say, a polestar or Tesla when crisis comes round the corner :)

might still actually buy (instead of company lease) one on the side eventually though, First big investment is going to be the house again
- wall batteries (80 % energy independence)
- pallet or wood furnace with TEG's
- extension of the garage and a seperate bedroom on top of that.

You will need to learn organic chemistry and petrochemical chemistry and learn about distillation. Have you thought about what you are going to do with the byproduct? Which I have looked up that it is Glycerol. Combine Nitric and Sulfuric acid with the Glycerol and you have yourself a explosion.

By the way, off topic - Soundcloud now has introduced Paywall what do you guys think? I think it's just BS that I have pay in order to listen to a track.

Over here they have a fuel excise has increased to 49.6 cents per litre which is a tax on fuel and they are not subsided they are taxed here in Australia. The octane they have is 91, 95, 98 (high octane for high performance cars), Ethanol (slightly cheaper fuel), and Diesel. My car doesn't like Ethanol. They used to have Leaded Petrol but they banned that in 2002 according to google and Algeria was the last country to completely ban leaded petrol in 2021.

yeah but you have to be an absolute moron to actively mix those two with glycerine m8...like. how would i go about doing that, accidently topple them in (assuming I have them nearby) with the lids opened up at the same time lol?

the whole process Its dead simple tbh, did it two years ago at my father in law's its basically filtered used cooking oil + 1 tenth of methanol and add a dash of sodium hydroxide, (kitchen cleaner basically), which you then mix/heat for 4 hours and tap the rest product from the bottom (or just leave it there and scoop up the top stuff)

But what do you do with the bi product if there is any? Do you chuck away the top stuff you scoop up?

Another issue is that there is a shortage for cooking oil as well. But I think over here in Australia there is only 1 place where I can dispose any chemical items.

I've enjoyed the gas vehicles I've driven whenever I need to drive them (except for Uhaul vans and trucks. Those suck!) I kind of want to get a V8 Ford Mustang later on as a fun weekend car or for longer trips.

just throw it away m8, plenty of chemical disposal points where he lives (and where I live aswell)
How do you deal with the high flash point for vegetable oil? Petrol has a flash point at -43C and whilst cooking oil has a flash point 204C

I am amazed how this sounds like a fusion of Mozart's Symphony and Piano Concerto

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't flash point to part where the engine combust so if it's non diesel engine then it may not work. I might have to figure out a way to convert my car into a bio diesel.

ah thats what you mean, yes, your engine has to be a diesel, which mine is fortunatly. Petrol/gasoline is an entirely different process. Also, its not recommended to go full-on selfmade stuff, but to mix it 50/50 with industrial produced diesel.

still, thats around 40 liters in my case which is about 75 euro's "free" fuel.

It's always weird hearing about diesel engines in non-trucks. We just don't have diesel cars here at all.

Yeah I thought so, by the way this is interesting website comparing countries about the cost of living. Not surprised to see Switzerland and America and Australia increasing in prices and some asian and african countries are in the green.

Hey, I'm planning a weekend trip to London, I don't know exactly when yet, but it will be in August or at the latest in September. Are there any trance parties happening there?
