and strangely very few examples from the leftAn interesting wiki article on dog whistling, with plenty of examples from the American Right:
Dog Whistling (Politics)
and strangely very few examples from the leftThis must mean they don't engage in that kind of stuff at all and are of the two the most virtuous and pure
nah In all honesty i'm not that impressed by specifically these kinds of everyone-can-put-some-term-on-wiki articles m8..
This is a prime example of one of those vague buzzterms that frequently get used by opposing ideological or political camps when they can’t actually point a concrete, well defined finger at the opponent for engaging in pretty much the exact same tactics and behavior that they do, and so when out of ammo they come up with things like this. Its political mud slinging.
another example of vague buzzterms nowadays would be something like
- "microaggression"
or to use an example from the right wing of the political isle:
- "Queerbaiting"
"Dog whistle" as a term (and the way in this article is presented) is in itself a Dog wistle and a wink wink nod nod to supporters of the left to imply that there is a vast right wing conspiracy against them that communicates with hidden codewords too its supporters. because remember: "the message of dog-whistling is especially clear to those who can hear it"
in other words: completely subjective and not to mention extremely loaded from the send-end of the message.![]()
so I can presume then you're also very weary of seemingly-innocent speech like "diversity" and "inclusivity" that hold deeper meaning for those who hear it?gay civil unions: gay marriage. This one makes sense because if civil unions don't confer the same legal benefits as marriage, then something needs to change. You either update the laws so civil unions are at the same level as marriage (from a legal standpoint), or you allow gay marriage
edit: and even if you think dog whistling is itself a dog whistle, you should still be suspicious of anyone who engages in this seemingly-innocent speech that holds deeper meaning for those who hear it.
Haha all good indeed but I wish you would've asked me right then and there, instead of getting a wrong opinion about myself and sort of looking at me from that perspective.gotcha, that always bothered me tbh but I guess it's all good
A good chunk of liberal/left-minded people (myself included) are suspicious of corporations that focus too much on D&I/virtue signaling. Curiously, there's a Time article on dog-whistle diversity, by a working WOC:so I can presume then you're also very weary of seemingly-innocent speech like "diversity" and "inclusivity" that hold deeper meaning for those who hear it?
or is this only one sided from your end?
Corporations can be all talk, no real substance, and they will continue to be so unless they make a concerted effort to have diversity across all levels of the organization, not just the grunts at the bottom.Though the companies are increasing the headcount of multicultural employees, they are missing what researchers call effective diversity management, or the inclusion piece. These are the vital tools which lead to better decision making, authentic engagement amongst employees, innovation and thought leadership, and sustainable growth within an organization. It becomes evident organizations are making efforts towards diversity and inclusion in name only. Therefore, diversity is measured, but inclusion is ignored.
...
And when an organization has a low amount of minority executives, multicultural women interpret it as an indicator of barriers to advancement.
I didn't know about either of those thingsthis is what i mean with completely subjective and not to mention extremely loaded from the send-end of the message.
Edit: this kind of vague panickery winking is also prime bait for trolling, which proponent of the term have been quite the victim of in recent years including large legacy papers. who, via 4 chan sublte hinting managed to create mass panic in making them think that "milk" was a signal of white supremacy.
or thesign was actually nazi ïsm. I mean seriously...
yeah I've had the wrong opinion of you for a while... I'm sorry.Haha all good indeed but I wish you would've asked me right then and there, instead of getting a wrong opinion about myself and sort of looking at me from that perspective.
I don’t typically ask you questions that are of the “personal therapy” genre, but here goes: how the fuck do you (general you) work at a horrific job that is mentally draining, in which you face passive aggressive harassment on a daily basis and are literally ostracized by your coworkers, but which your superiors write off as “unsubstantiated,” where your entire department is unappreciated by said superiors, none of you have been properly trained so you’re all just winging it as you go, and everything is so tense and yet at the same time so dismissive you just want to unalive yourself so you don’t have to go in on Monday morning, and NOT go insane?
I work a gov’t job, and I’m miserable because of all the above reasons. I’ve essentially been bullied for a year, but my requests for help have been met with “what you say is happening is not happening.” I’d quit on the spot if I could, but I have an apartment and Dreamcatcher shit to buy. Plus if I stick with the job for a few more years, I can kiss my student loans bye bye. But man, it’s just making my depression so much worse, and I feel like I’m swimming against the current.
How do I deal?
I had a job like this many years ago, I dealt with it by quitting and getting a better job that wasn’t in the government! Working in the government is shit.
How do you deal with it? You cop and make yourself age a lot faster and resort to taking drugs, smoking and alcohol and gambling as a means of escape. I went through that shit and my parents feel I have not been properly trained but that's not the case when you don't know how to react in those stressful situations and people are leeches and hyenas' they love seeing you in pain or discomfort to the point where you become sadistic person. If you don't like it you are looked at weak and not a "Man". Imagine being gaslighted and your perceptions being thrown out of synch where people can easily manipulate you to their own specification no matter how smart you maybe and management and staff can get away with in those cut throat work environments.
I believe you. Why does the Australian government have such a bad work environment? How do you deal with it? You cop and make yourself age a lot faster and resort to taking drugs, smoking and alcohol and gambling as a means of escape. I went through that shit and my parents feel I have not been properly trained but that's not the case when you don't know how to react in those stressful situations and people are leeches and hyenas' they love seeing you in pain or discomfort to the point where you become sadistic person. I have turned down a job that pays $42 per hour at a Government job and my former boss got away with sleeping with some of the younger girls and he has 2 kids and a wife and he could get away with it. If I did those things I would have ended up in prison the double standards in most companies is ludicrous.
The Government does not care at all, they have this "We Care" motto but it's just a bogus scam to lure you in and then use you as a slave. Well, some of them don't have a choice, there is nothing they can do management and some staff use empathy and trauma bonding a psychological manipulative and exploitative tactic to get inside your head and then they use that information against you and I saw psychologically change my personality just by a mere thought by them and humans are strange people anything too perfect is considered not to be real and because their parents had such behaviours they took on those traits as kids. Some of the people in the Department don't have any other means to go anywhere else because of a fear of losing that feeling whether it be addiction to drugs, music, smoking or gambling and when they lose that thing it's like being heartbroken or feeling like you've lost a sense of your self and some of them have experienced porn addiction, sex addiction, domestic violence, trauma and disability and psychsosis episodes too and they can't go into private sector because no one would support them. You are not living in an idealistic world, if you have any imperfections they pass judgement based on your looks, they determine your life from the very beginning because I have had a lot of hardships I cannot live in luxury and do the things I want to get because I am perceived as dirty because of the ethnicity. Australia had the white Australia policy it was only abolished in the 1970's they don't want some brown person to take over the departments if you have a look all of them are pure white or pure Chinese or Japanese . There is not a single Aboriginal person at the top of any Department and yet they allow them to use drugs and alcohol and they put them on income management as a means to control their alcohol behaviour while the idiots who brought it and permanently destroyed their lives get to live in the fantasy drinking their fancy alcohol and they don't want to change themselves.I believe you. Why does the Australian government have such a bad work environment?
It sounds like you're much happier at your current job, wherever you are
I can relate to that. I found the few times not having headphones in public I had panic attacks, anxiety, awkwardness and even waiting this Saturday in the line for Trance Sanctuary was horrible. And with year after year I find it getting worst and worst. If i am not with a friend or someone I know I need headphone to isolate myself, and living in London definitely does not help.It was my birthday on Friday, I am officially in the final year of my 30's
In an unusual, but welcome turn of events, my younger brother said he'd take me out for a meal & drinks.
He's only in his mid 20's and suffers badly from anxiety and finds leaving the house for long periods of time or being in crowded places very stressful. So it was great to actually get him out for the night!
He finally decided to stop smoking weed a couple of months back and it's amazing how much of his self esteem has come back since.
Like, I've always been of the mind it should be legal, but there's not doubt in my mind it can certainly exacerbate existing mental health problems for some people.
We had a good night, ate some great food and then drank far to much craft beer in a local microbrewery bar
Then spent saturday visiting my mum, and spent the evening watching old comedies (Police Squad!) ,drinking even more beer and she cooked a roast leg of lamb with all the trimmings... good job I'm not back in work 'til weds as I need the extra days to recover![]()
