The Odyssey:
Saw it two weeks ago, not found time to write a little review.
It's a good movie, true. Not the masterpiece a lot of people are raving about though. Oh there is a lot wrong with it.
The bad:
The pacing is absolutely horrendous. It's jumping from scene to scene, and the story is just not gripping you like it should be.
Character development has not been Nolan his strongest game, and in The Odyssey he's done it again. They all seems so dull and flat. And yes we can blame the casting for it. From average Matt Damon to overacting Anne Hathaway to terrible Tom Holland [Who I don't even trust acting in a commercial, damn he's bad]. Such a shame Charlize Theron has a small part, she's always been a favourite of mine. I do have to credit Robert Pattinson though, he was great, but then again poorly written.
With a runtime of almost 3 hours, It still felt rushed. And like
@LostLegend said, me and my friends did joke about the run away scenes as well.
The good:
With a budget of 250 million "?". It does look great on IMAX. Especially the scene with the huge/big guys was incredible. I did love that scene.
The score was great as well Ludwig delivered one hell of a theme, and especially the part with the "Siren" was executed very well!
Nolan sure does know how to make big movies, and yes it should be seen in the cinemas [IMAX]. So, yes from a commercial stand of view, it's a huge success.
Verdict:
7.5 / 10
Like I said, it's a good movie, but nothing more. If only Nolan did invest in a new casting director, and perhaps hire someone to help with the script his next movie would be incredible.
