Ferry version is good at delivering what's expected.
Tiesto version is good at delivering something stands out.

I prefer... other tracks 😆

Ferry's remix all day however I also agree with daysleeper in that the fusion of trance and classical music is absolutely corny as hell

I think classical and Trance can merge perfectly...if theyre done right. Ferrys version is probably the best example you could pick out of the Trance genre...but after the Andy Blueman era the scene got saturated with that style, and it wasnt done well at all.

Yeah I'm with Magda on this one.

I mean... you guys (assumption) approve of long pads.... which is used ALL THE TIME in trance...

But when that instrument is some kind of violin or cello or whatever... then suddenly it's bad? Nah.

Like any instrument, if done right, it's awesome.

The Ferry mix just crashes in when played in a set, a literal gatecrasher, and so good to mix with. It has tension, drama and euphoria, plus like what's already said in this topic, it's a great tune to introduce trance to people with. I introduced my mother to trance with it.

I have many good memories of listening to it coming in on mixes on the radio or at clubs when I was younger.

You could get The Digital Blonde to remix it, put Nicole Willerton on the artwork, and give it away with free kittens and I'd still go for the Ferry mix.

I enjoy both. Had great times as a teenager, going crazy to the Tiesto version on full blast, while we were in the mountains at a sports camp with our athletics club. I packed my speakers incl the subwoofer into the bags just for Trance music, leaving little space for all the other stuff haha. Good times!

Nowadays I prefer the more mature Ferry version.

I mean, why not. :D
Like a reeeally dark Trance version for a change. I can imagine it very well in his style, it would be quite something!

Ferry's mix is the GOAT though, it will remain in eternal glory.

Ferry's version is just perfection for me. And I'm also glad it was labeled William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix), and not Ferry Corsten - Adagio For Strings (a horrible trend that started to become popular from the following years onwards).

I remember when I first discovered trance music around 2003, I started looking for some songs from the previous years and suddenly I stumbled upon that one. An unforgettable moment.

Well, uh... another version by Ferry did get labeled as such, so...

As for the discussion itself: I personally don't really care about either remake, but that's mostly because I think the original piece is nothing more than "just okay".

It's good to see that the discussion about these two tracks is more level-headed here.

In trance-related Facebook groups, people tend to form their entire identity around these tracks. They often use these tunes as focal points to try to demonstrate how great their taste is, as well as how musically educated and talented they are by parroting the same thing as the previous commenters: "Hey, the Tiesto remix sucks, the Ferry version rocks". They act as if they chose between fucking Shawshank Redemption and Transformers 2. But in reality, both tracks are great, and they are just salty because Tiesto left trance (slightly sooner than other guys, while many other guys kept pretending they played trance), and... well, they mostly only listen to late '90s stuff anyway so it's not like their taste or knowledge in the genre is that refined or that extensive. Especially when the next tune they mention is the fucking Gabriel & Dresden Remix of Ash The Rush Comes. LOL.
Never liked Tiesto's version. Added nothing new, I do not like the lead sound and the remix felt felt like a cash grab to me, reflective of his status at that point and sadly confirmed by what happened after that. And I hate giving him sh1t as met him a bunch of times in the late 90's and early 00's and he's the nicest fella. The Ferry version is just classy and so well produced and arranged. It is far superior to Skip Raiders 'Just Another Day', though I do like this one too.

I enjoy both, but Tiësto’s version is more nostalgic for me; it was my introduction to trance music
