Every other day there's some knee-jerk decision I hear about, and there wasn't one I understood.

Tariffs, limiting NGO funding (which affects my other work), now USAid... Would love to at least understand what's going on.

A lot of things don't make sense until you realize that the North American Free Trade Agreement screwed over a huge chunk of the US manufacturing industry. Trump's tariffs are intended to bring manufacturing jobs back to the US. However, that isn't going to happen.

The USAid cut seems pretty obvious to me. When said institution has spiralled down into spending millions of taxpayer dollars on DEI and transgender musicals abroad. It might be time to press the reset button.

I find the whole concept of spending taxpayer-money on foreign aid bordering on unethical t.b.h. Taxes are by concept forced obligatory payments too the states government who has been put there and lend power by the demos to improve their lives in their country as citizens, and as such part of the social contract between the two.

It should not be spend on that or collected for that by government-fiat.

I’m all in favor of foreign aid, but on a voluntary basis…If you’re a Hollywood celeb or rich EU CEO suffering from a guilty conscious with your 5 mansions and 10 cars over x situation abroad -> go nuts and spend millions on aid. But if you’re the lower to middleclass hard working keeping your family fed-type.. you should not be forced to pay fixed amounts for that.

especially if it degenerates into said “aid”

Mark Rutte, NATO secretary per excellence quote:

"Ukraine is not losing, but the front is moving in the wrong direction"

I am reminded once again why I never voted for the guy and the absolute politician he is…

....for 30 days, if they don't live up expectation :D

both Mexico and Trudeau pretty much rolled over after one phonecall, Deploying roughly 10,000 additional personnel to their respective borders with the U.S. and in case of Canada Investing another $200 million against organized crime and the fentanyl trade.

dunno 'bout you. but I call that a bargain

Should have seen it coming tbh. He spent a lot of his first year as President last time around taking credit for stuff that was set up by the previous administration and that is exactly what he's doing here.
Most of this was already agreed in December under the Biden administration:

Backgrounder

Canada is investing $1.3 billion to bolster security at the border and strengthen the immigration system, all while keeping Canadians safe. This includes $667.5M for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, $355.4M for the Canada Border Services Agency, $180M over 6 years for the Communications Security Establishment, $77.7M for Health Canada, and $20M over five years for Public Safety Canada.

Detecting and disrupting the fentanyl trade

  • Adding new and expanded detection capacity to better detect illegal drugs and other threats such as guns and gun parts at border entries, which will also contribute to cutting cargo container processing time.
  • Creating a new Canadian Drug Profiling Centre to support 2,000 investigations a year and expand capacity at regional labs. CBSA will deploy new chemical detection tools at high-risk ports of entry.
  • Deploying new canine teams to intercept illegal drugs.
  • Accelerating the regulatory process for banning precursor chemicals so that border and law enforcement can take swift action to prevent their illegal importation and use.
  • Launching a new Chemical Precursor Risk Management Unit to increase oversight over precursor chemicals and monitor emerging illegal drug trends, enhance monitoring and surveillance, and enable timely law enforcement action.
  • Expanding powers to strengthen law enforcement to act against illegal drugs and precursors under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Introducing Significant New Tools for Law Enforcement

  • Investing in new crewed and non-crewed (drones) air-based intelligence and surveillance platforms to support live operational response and monitoring of border events and patterns. This will be complimented by mobile surveillance towers, supporting artificial intelligence (AI) tools and counter-drone technology intended to provide more comprehensive surveillance between ports of entry.
  • Develop a better picture of illegal drug supply chains by expanding capacity for intelligence collection by the RCMP and the Communications Security Establishment (CSE), to target transnational organized crime and fentanyl trafficking more effectively.
  • Bring in a legislative requirement to expressly obligate port owners and operators to provide CBSA, free of charge, with the space and facilities it needs to conduct export inspections, just as they do for imports.
  • Punish serious criminal non-compliance of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act by: increasing limits for all criminal fines by 10 times and all undefined prison terms to up to 1 year; and introducing a new offence for the provision of false information to FINTRAC.
  • Strengthen the anti-money laundering/anti-terrorist financing framework, advance the global fight on financial crime, and support a positive upcoming Mutual Evaluation of Canada by the Financial Action Task Force by: requiring reporting entities, not already registered, to enroll with FINTRAC; enabling FINTRAC disclosures to the Office of the Commission of Canada Elections to detect and deter illicit financing and foreign interference in Canadian elections; and making technical amendments.

Improving Operational Coordination

  • Creating regional hubs to coordinate national, regional, and local law enforcement activities against organized crime and illegal drugs.
  • Propose to the United States the creation of a new North American Joint Strike Force to target transnational organized crime, including operational surges, dedicated synthetic drug units, expanded Combined Forces Special Enforcement Units, Binational Integrated Border Enforcement Teams, and new technical operations capacity and infrastructure.
They've conceded little to nothing on what was already due to be implemented.

Trump gets to walk away like he's made some sort of 4d chess move.
To be fair, if this was his intention all along, then fair play, but the idea that he has won some sort of huge concession from the Canadians here is laughable.
It's all pretty pantomime stuff

According to Trump's own Truth social post here:

This is all just a repeat of what was already agreed.

There's no mention as to whether the 10,000 personnel is in addition to what was already planned or are already there.
The additional $200m is being funded by the USA. "and we will be backing it with $200 million.” - Trumps words.

The only real confirmed addition here is a Fentanyl Czar. And I'm sure this position isn't purely tokenistic at all...

Canada has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border, and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like Fentanyl that have been pouring into our Country, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, while destroying their families and communities all across our Country.

Canada will implement their $1.3 Billion Border plan, and as per Prime Minister Trudeau, will be, “reinforcing the Border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are, and will be, working on protecting the Border. In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the Border, launch a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl, and we will be backing it with $200 million.”

As President, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of ALL Americans, and I am doing just that. I am very pleased with this initial outcome, and the Tariffs announced on Saturday will be paused for a 30 day period to see whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured. FAIRNESS FOR ALL!

That one is on the Mexican side

Canada will be backing it with 200 mill extra.

So, he got more money, more personnel, more security, and all it “cost” on his end was a tarif threat. 🙂

The US are having to contribute $200m themselves as well.

Just seems a lot of over-the-top political bluster for (in the grand scheme of things) a paltry result.

But sure, "Sword of Damocles" "Art of the Deal" etc. etc. Pure pantomime, all of it.

Tell you what, though, the entertainment value is through the roof! 😆

Conclusions - Ultra-processed foods, eating out a lot, a lack of physical activity

Yeah man, this is it. Where do you think the chemicals I am talking about are most commonly found? That study has a whole section on sodas I see too. Quick google search will list out the many chemicals and dyes used in these products. Red dye 3 got banned just last monthly the FDA. I'd look more at the targeted studies of compounds and biological effects vs the broader, high level stuff. Just search about endocrine disrupting compounds and you'll find countless studies demonstrating the relationship to weight and metabolics. US food system is overflowing with these compounds.

I think we can keep the faith and back RFK to do something about this as Health Secretary. He's worked in this space for decades and litigated successfully to the tune of billions. The dude literally specializes in taking on powerful entities in the food system. He's perfect for this role. If Trump and Biden could get chemicals banned as a peripheral effort I'm sure RFK can make amazing progress given how passionate he is about all this.

I'm gonna wait and see this one out a bit...this could be one of those typical "aim ridiculously high" trumpisms he's well known for, to just get the max or optimum out of it when actual negotiations kick of.. I don't think he would want to sacrifice the Abraham Accords over this one.

then again who knows, the man certainly has the love eyes for Isreal.. maybe he wants to go down in history as the person who settled the gaza land dispute once and for all.

albeit on the unethical side..

Completely gutting the CIA now.

To be fair, the CIA has been a hive of villainy for many years, so I don’t think there’ll be many tears at him essentially torching it (the staff at least)

Depending of course what the replacement looks like.
Doesn’t the us have like.. 20 intelligent agencies something? 😆

dafuq’s up with that @dmgtz96 @SaltAcidFatHeatAcid @Atragun91091 @Contraband
