The cope from #freepalestine protesters and liberal influencers like Hasan is just so funny. These people are really out of their minds, huh?
To give the devil its due..It is pretty horrible for the people living there..and while I question, to put it mildly, the underlying intent of certain ideologues amongst the #freepalestine movement.. there is definitely a hard core of truth in the Palestinian people being the total victims of this that i can sympathise with . Whether its victims by hamas, mossad or US.

President Donald Trump announced that he will sign an executive order ending the push for paper straws.

"I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don't work," Trump posted on Truth Social. "BACK TO PLASTIC!"

Honestly the best thing he's ever done :ROFLMAO:

You know what i don’t get right..

An áctual straw.. as in piece of reed you chop of, wash and give to your kid to slurp lemonade from..

works better then those paper straw with microplastic coating abominations we’re forced to use nowadays.

like what’s up with that? What sort of absolute bureaucrat woke up one morning and decided that to be a good idea to save “teh planut”.

It’s something one can do to help forget about the enormous environmental impact we have in all other ways of life. Like having children and flying in planes :). I’m not gonna stop traveling or pumping out kids but damn these shitass straws make me feel better at least.

its actually spot on though... that ís the reason. They don't sell a better environment. They sell you feeling better by you pretending you make an impact in sacrificing some of the comfort you used to experience with normal straws.. "for the climate"

Marketing 101. Don't sell the product. Sell the dream.

Its the same reason why for instance fake safety sells in case of SUV's. Those things are:
- more crash sensitive
- have worse impact zone and are harder to escape from
- actually tip over easier then your standard car shape

but they "feel" safe, because they look so muscly and you sit so nice and high up

I hope the /s wasn’t needed :). The SUV thing is also spot on. Heard that one so many times. I like small quick cars so I can dodge all you maniacs.

That makes three of us!

No, really, it feels weird driving a small car while everyone else is in huge SUVs and trucks. It almost feels like you're maneuvering against obstacles

For me it’s a bit like a spitfire vs a Lancaster bomber.

when drive my Transit Custom camper/surf van, that’s the Lancaster and most people will just avoid you for the sheer ass you rock, despite being slow af

The Peugeot is defo the spitfire in a dogfight zipping through everything like a wasp but don’t expect people to get out of the way for you lol

Some interesting meeting discussions in my industry this morning. Steel prices already going up for rebar, structural to follow. The WSJ had a solid OP-ED this morning about steel tariffs, worth a read. In short, Tariffs, for steel and aluminum especially, are dumb AF.

And just as a side note. I think the part that really gets me is the lack of a clear plan. These tariffs aren't coming from a robust well-thought and planned economic strategy. It's just a shitshow. Uncertainty is bad for the economy.

Quotes from the whitehouse spokeswoman today on Ukraine war

" It's time to stop this ridiculous war"
" Trump has spoken to Putin"
" God bless people of Russia and Ukraine"
" Admisitration is wholeheardetly commited to a peace deal to end the war once and for all"

Trump is calling Putin and talking to him directly, something Biden refused to do.

The difference already between the two administrations is night and day. Whatever the outcome is, at least we've got a shot for this madness to end. Hundreds of thousands of young people dead.

Vance: “The Eu does not accept or respect free speech.”

Eu: “Vance’s speech was unacceptable!”

Tbf, Vance isn't wrong about that. The fact that hate speech is a concept in Europe means that free speech isn't truly there.

It’s worse then that.. most of the euc aristocrats can’t even distinguish between hate-speech and just speech they hate anymore

Wait until you hear about the draconian ‘Online Safety Act’ coming into force in the UK next month.
There are literally hundreds of UK based forums shutting down as they do not have the resources to mod their own sites to the extent that this ridiculous law would require.

A sports forum I post on regularly has had to remove its ‘Current Affairs’ a section they used to leave generally unmoderated (within reason) to keep the place neutral politically. The new act would risk them being fined if someone posted “misinformation” and they failed to remove it. The problem is, what misinformation actually is can, in some cases, be entirely subjective.

Here’s the post the site owner made:
Short Version

The UK government is forcing us to remove the Current Affairs forum, and NSFW type threads. Maybe also user to user private messaging.

Google 'Online Safety Act' if interested.

Long Rambling Version;

We're of course, an Everton Forum.

But in our 18+ years (not one of you wished the forum a happy birthday last week ffs), we've become a community beyond Everton.

Since 2017, we've sought to best accomodate 'current affairs' discussion in it's own sub forum - out the way, with a 'enter at own risk'/hands off moderation policy.

It's worked well.

Or as well as it could have done. Online. Politics.

However, the Online Safety Act (OSA) in the UK comes into effect on March 17, 2025. Someone much more articulate than I provides some commentary here. Also some more background info and it's implications here.

The implications of the act has already caused forums in their entirety to close, others have closed the ability to post. Some discussion on here of this act from December.

Moderating a Everton forum is challenging enough - we don't have the resource, ability, diplomacy to moderate politics in a way that would make us compliant with the act. Even if we did, I don't think we'd have the inclination to. Nor be prepared to accept the personal liability to do so.

Sadly then, we need to close the Current Affairs forum from 1st March.

We'll also need to close 'Not Safe For Work' threads, like 'The Fit Birds' thread.

There's a chance we may also need to disable user to user private messaging but I'm awaiting clarification on that.

But fear not. We can still fume about Everton.

i continue to be amazed at US capitulation on the world stage. What a turn of policy we have here. Sad for the destruction of long standing partnerships and the damage that will result. Y’all can reason away at why licking weak-ass-Putins balls is the right move for Trump at a time when Russia has never been weaker, while not considering the true motives of the players. It’s never been a better time to be an authoritarian and the club is looking sexier by the day. And the Ukraine ‘peace talks’ don’t include the core players. Fuck this farce.
