It's a thread for - you guessed it - sports!

I know we have one for football, but I thought a general one would make sense. So post ahead!

Pretty funny what happened to Djokovic now. Hit the lineswoman in the throat and got disqualified from the US Open. That means that, ever since Wawrinka won AO in '14, there'll be a first-time Slam winner.

No videos yet, but if you can rewind your TV broadcast (and/or be patient), you'll be able to see what happened.

This is how Shapovalov got disqualified a couple of years ago - although also not intentional, the hit was stronger.

We host ATP 250 tournament here in Sofia next month and the line-up is insane

vihz_960_360.jpeg

We also have Alex de Minaur, Felix Auger Aliassime and Kevin Anderson. Cilic and Jannik Sinner in the alternates.
I know there is a pandemic but it's quite tempting...

Add Andy Murray and it's tempting for me as well. 😂

Do Vatican priests molest children?

Of course I watched it. He hasn't been very good since, has he? One small title, one victory over Zverev and a 5-set comeback. And that's about it. Hope he gets better, I think if he gets more matches he'll improve.

Anyone following the NFL?

I'm a huge fan of the Eagles, but the entire NFC (L)East is horrible right now. And being 1,5 game up, the Eagles are now 1 win down from the 1st spot, and will surely stay that way after the Seattle game. The team is fucked in every way possible.

Yeah man, i was wondering why there is no nfl thread yet :) . Ayway, i have been looking at the nfl lately, because i simply can't do anything with the current football/soccer.
It started when my best buddy taught me in a 3.5 hour powerpoint presentation the rules, the teams, the fans, drafts and much more.
I also keep my fingers crossed for the eagles. they will probably reach the playoffs, but that's because of the current bad division.

That's a good friend you have there! My taught me some basics during one game, and it took me from 2017 (after the Eagles' win with that kick) until the start of this season to really get my head around basically everything.

The Eagles... Well, they have a tight schedule. I think, as much as it pains me to say it, that the Giants will go through.

Who do you cheer for?

That's funny. Afterwards we watched the superbowl of 2017 as a visual instruction. My friend is a big Patriots supporter, since many years.

I'm really still completely new to the NFL, i can't even say exactly who i'm cheering for.
My sympathies for the eagles, to be honest, come from "all or nothing" and what i know from my friend's hearsay. The fans seem to be a little bit special, that reminds me of my favorite soccer club from germany.
But still a bit indecisive, after all the vikings have the coolest colors and the bugs have a fucking pirate ship in the stadium :)

No. Its Kasierslautern, my hometown. Since a few years successful in the third division :) Not a nice topic :)

I know that club, but never knew anything about its fanbase.

Dortmund's my team. I think Dortmund and Philly are quite alike, blue-collar town which lives and breathes for its club.

Unfortunately i can't judge that anymore. I'm way too far away for that now. i've seen the last games for years, except some games of Ktown. I don't follow the national team or the national league. But i like to reminisce about the good old days :)

Back to the NFL, mate... will you also follow the drafts or do you take part in one of these fantasy leagues?
Now that I'm a little bit aware of it, i'm amazed how big it all is.

It's a huge industry, I agree. These guys just make a big deal out of everything. I love the sponsors too, it's hilarious. "Official sandwich partner of the NFL" and so on... There's a sponsor for everything!

As for the draft, I don't watch it personally. I read the news (almost) exclusively from the official Eagles page, and the same goes for the draft coverage. As for watching the workouts and all that stuff, I really don't see the point of that for me. I'm not a pro scout or anything, and it's not entertaining me, so it's a waste of time - again, for me. Same goes for the Pro Bowl. Might look at a couple of workouts there (such as precision etc), but later on, on YouTube. Never been into fantasy, not NFL or Bundesliga or w/e. Also think it's a waste of my time, plus it's not that rewarding (but playing games such as Madden or Football Manager is). I'm also not into betting, so maybe that's why, since it's essentially a form of free betting (but with no reward).

I am watching more games this year though. Last year I only followed the Eagles, now I watch a couple every weekend. Eagles, of course, always and with full-focus, the rest depends on how I'm feeling. But I'm following everything much more than the previous years. Goddamn, I wish Eagles have won the Superbowl now instead, when I'm at my peak interest. 2017/18 was my first season of cheering for them and following the NFL. Didn't know a lot about the game, the history and everything else.

i will maybe deal with it a little bit more without getting too deep into the matter. i can feel that many people have fun and fantasy, it would be too much work for me. In general I can't do anything with sports betting. But to each his own.

It's interesting to see the differences. I wonder if there are franchises that don't have a chance to make the playoffs, that "try less" to get a better position in the drafts. In the first and second Bundesliga, for example, the TV money is distributed by league position. This incentive is completely missing.

I don't know, it's more damaging than it is rewarding. I mean, look at the Jets right now. I bet every player would just want to leave, or started to hate the coaches, the staff and the GM. It's far easier to trade for a pick.

I like how in the NFL, teams have a limited amount of salary money they can distribute to the players, so that sort of evens the clubs out, financially, making most of the teams kinda equal, more or less. Of course, it's a zero-sum game, but the salary cap means that the club, if smart, can in a few years make a great team that can challenge for the trophies. So every year it's really interesting to watch, but I bet it's really frustrating to work in a franchise.

In Bundesliga (and all of football), the clubs are sort of free to do as they wish - or at least the limitations aren't that high. Bundesliga is a bit better in this regard (especially regarding the ownership/financing structure), but even then there's Bayern, and then there's the rest. But then again, the NFL approach works for them because it's one league, played in one country. So either FIFA would have to impose strict rules and limitations, or it wouldn't work otherwise. We wouldn't have clubs like PSG, City, Chelsea and even Bayern; instead the title race would always be interesting.
