Deepcry - WorkThenPlay [Prognosis Records]

After his excellent remix with Narel on Facade's epic release last year... Hey, we've got the gang back together. Deepcry has delivered a cracking track to start 2024 for us. WorkThenPlay is both dark and dirty and bright and uplifting. Some proper heads down grooves with wonderful synth lines. Facade ups the BPMs a touch adds a tough rolling groove and keeps the uplift. Narel, flying solo this time, has given us a psy tinged remix that also adds some piano touches. What a start to 2024!

I'll wait for longer samples before deciding fully, but upon first listen, 'tis the Façade Remix for me (fancy spelling and everything).

4:25 reminds me of an older track I can't seem to remember, and it'll annoy the hell out of me until I do. However, such is life.

I'll wait judging till i hear the full versions but Prognosis will be another label i'll be keeping my eye on this year and i think it's time to browse their earlier releases some more.

Facade's remix for me. Love the groove and energy. Will wait for longer samples though, but Narel's is also showing some promise. Original not for me.

I like my mix of this but it’s F’kin odd. The 12/16 hook riff in particular, that’s the notes from Jon’s original hook rearranged into a different sequence on FM8, LPF and BPF automated then run through IM Gatekeeper to make the shifting time signature. Y I do this?!!! LOL.
Then the lead…. that’s Jon’s original audio chopped up…. no, maimed.
The piano, that was going to sit over some chords, nope… just got lobbed in as a palate cleanser.
I was sober too

what I like about it it's that despite all the geeky outside the box tricks and creative decisions there's still a lot music in there, some great tension too.

some guys like Ahmed Helmy are fckin class in terms of getting the cutting edge hi-tech sound but it's getting harder to listen to his records coz the music itself gets sacrificed for the sake of these tricks and techniques and fresh sounds
