I love those top tracks topics but this is absolutely impossible. I am not able to make the ultimate TOP 10 TRANCE of all time. I know too much and listen to too many subgenres of trance music, especially back in the day. Despite being not constant I like to try creating my personal Top 10. However these ten tunes will change from time to time, despite 2-3 tracks which will ever placed in my Top 10 ranking. Neverthless, here we go:

10.) STORM - The Return (1999)
The ultimate peak of Mark Spoon's and Jam El Mar's Storm project which lasted until 2000. This track was released as a promo by late 1999 and later featured on the bonus CD of 2000s 'Stormjunkie'. It is a real German trance track with an great build up and was perfect for the change of the millenium. Simple in one way but unbelievable in choreography. Somehow dark but still got light in it. Totally forgotten nowadays (at least outside of Germany) but man - it's soo good!

09.) WITCHCRAFT - Whale (1995)
One od two Goa/Psytrance tracks in this ranking but this is the more Goaish one. Witchcraft was a short lived project by Israel's SANDMAN, CHAKRA & JOHAN KALLA and 'Whale' became a small underground club hit back then. The first 6 minutes are good Goa trance but nothing really special, just a good build up and fine sound quality. The change comes with the final minute - This called minute is still from another planet and cannot be real; It is one of the best trance breaks (within the beats and grooves) of all time and still unbeaten. That's why this track is featured here.

08.) GRIDLOCK - Rocket Trip (1992)
The earliest tune in this ranking and that one of whom one can also argue if it is really 'trance' at all. For me this is 100% trance music. This is freaking' KLF style mixed with early ORBITAL trips and classic UK NRG/trance from a time before the golden progressive era. Indeed, it's a track from Australia and only featured on an obscure 92' compilation which is absolute cult nowadays. The melody and build up are cheesy in some way but also very original and transform this tune to an absolute hymn / masterpiece! Sad that its only 4:30 minutes long but that's enough for being featured on my ranking.

07.) NAT MONDAY - Waiting (John Creamer & Stephane K Remix) (2001)
Now I like to jump to the above named golden progressive era and this song/mix is one of many tracks which brought me to UK Progressive back in the early 2000s. This remix is from late 2001 and shows every aspect why progressive trance/house was from another level back then. The build up in this 10 minute monster is just amazing and takes you on a real trance journey. 'Heaven when the darkness come'. Nuff said.

06.) DIGGER - Church Of Ra (1999)
The one Uplifter from the time when trance had to become commercial thanks to Armin, Tiesto, Ferry and the forgotten Vincent de Moor. But none of these producers were able to create such a masterpiece like this. Is it the best Uplifing trance track of all time? I don't know. Is it the best festival trance track of all time? Fuckin' yes! And I am still so glad that this tune hasn't been remixed to death yet. It is still a great underground club hit which has killed every trancefloor in 1999.

05.) JOHN '00' FLEMING & WIZZY NOISE - Endelexia (2007)
Around 2006/2007 JOOF records slowly raised to underground trance stardom which ultimately culminated in the 2010s. 'Endelexia' features only the best from John (Fleming) and Micky (Noise). This UK/Greek combo has an unbelievable build up until the Wizzy sounds brings you to dance into trance. Brilliant, just brilliant.

04.) EARTH NATION - Transfiguration (1995)
No ranking without the first main label in trance music - EYE Q. Ralf Hildenbeutel delivered a timeless classic which is so good that one cannot believe that this was already released in the experimental 1995 era. But in the early 90s, Eye Q was far ahead of its time and 'Transfiguraliton' (look at that name!) shows this in a perfect way.

03.) FOUR CARRY NUTS - Weird Egg (1996)
Psytrance. And well....this track has it all. It combines everything Psytrance stands for in the mid to late 90s. There is still a bit Goa trance around it but the main focus is just....psychedelic. And how psychedelic this 'weird egg' is! Time Schuldt put an instant classic to both the psy and trance scene and even 30 years later it sounds sooooo fresh and ...weird. I will love this tune till my death.

02) SLUSNIK LUNA VS. LOWLAND - Last Train To Trancentral (2006)
Nearly 20 years old but I am stil so impressed by this song. In an era where 'modern trance' declined in some way, this collabro by two underground artists simply put the best KLF cover to light. If you ever look for an Remake of The KLFs 1989s classic 'Last Trance To Trancentral' - take this. Released by small Finnish Unity Records, it is still unbeaten in sound design and an unbelievable trance prduction. It's an hymn-like, it's intelligent, it shows so much emotion and in the end - these nearly 10 minutes are just perfect.

01.) AFTERBURN - Fratt Boy (2000)

If you are ever interested in serious trance music - no one can ignore this track. The B-side of the famous 'North Pole' is the real deal. It has everything; a mysterious intro sequence, a great build up, a tribalish complex drum set, hidden breaks in the background and then the one and only main melody. Progressive in one way but also Uplifting. Classic Paul Van Dyke Style from 1999/2000 and often the opener of his sets back then. Agnelli & Nelson delivered nothing but the best trance track in the world - at least for me. Nothing, absolutely nothing can beat 'Fratt Boy', it is pure magic. Listen with good noise cancelling headphones and closed eyes on grass fields. The feeling will be unreal.
