In the mid-late nineties, Marc Mitchell was ON FIRE. He made numerous incredible examples of the "trance epic" - long playing tracks with clear evolving movements - under names like Sunday Club and Human Movement. This one-off is probably his most obscure (the label only existed for this one release). But IMO, it's also one of the best examples of trance released in the entire 1990s - and I'm including everything from 1997 onward.
I prefer the second take simply because it's longer and has more acid lines. But holy shit this is trance at its very best. You might smirk at the New Age-y vocal sample, but the rest of the track itself is a transcendent experience.
PM me if you want the version of Mahatma II that I remastered in Ozone.
