Shocking stuff that destroys what was once our trance scene

This happened with Airwave man. Quite frankly, the promoters don't want to book DB probably because his music is very sad and dark too. Sadly, it's the current fad at the moment where people also want to hear dry, and boring house music. I told Michael & levan this too but they told me this is the current fad what the market wants to hear. Which fool is determining this trend?

Sadly people want to hear the same track over and over.
He decided to got that way, music he is doing in the last 10 years or so...that isnt really dance music at all, its chill prog, good for background listening....it was his choice, you cant expect this music to be played in the clubs

Airwave should be touring every month much like Lange is,playing his classic tracks where there would be such a massive demand. Hes got such an extensive back catalogue - but i think he decided a long time ago he didnt want to do this, and hes never pushed himself to do it. Its a massive shame but its his personal choice - if it was me,and id made all those classic tracks - id be wanting to get out everywhere to play those classics to fans - and im sure there will be loads who was brought up on his tracks.

How can one of the most regarded producers here on this forum struggle to find gigs and generic uplifting guys tour the world?

Im surprised at this - surely his connection with JOOF he would be able to get gig opportunities. He collaborated with him,and we all know how much JOOF DJs all over the world.

But producers like DB and Airwave have stayed surprisingly underground - despite making many classic tracks. Compare this to the modern Trance DJs,who have 100x more followers - but never made a classic track in their life haha. Sometimes it dumbfounds me.

That's something I've been thinking about as well, but from a different perspective.

I mean, the classics being much more popular than the new stuff must hurt very hard for a proper artist. You're reminded every day that you will never make better music than you already did. It's sort of like a call to give up producing altogether.

Some might just jump on the train and get some hard cash, but Laurent is much more than that I believe. He wants to keep evolving as an artist all the time. He does play his classics sometimes though, on Lumi etc I think.

He hasnt played Lumi for a long time now...very strange as he went every year.

You say its a call to stop producing altogether..not if you keep making that style. I still make the same beats trance i made 10 or so years ago. But guys like Lange and Airwave dont...they could, but theyve wanted to totally change style - and its a style which isnt half as popular as their old one. I must be old fashoned or stuck in my ways, cos if i were them id still make that style which was so popular haha. But maybe add some subtle modern twists.

I see that mentality a lot on various classic trance groups around the web. That modern trance is outright awful.

I think another problem is that this site can be something of an echo chamber for our current tastes on here as well.
Take a look at the TF to 100 tracks list this years and last. Sure we can all agree that there’s some fantastic music on there, but when you compare it to the Beatport top Trance labels charts:

There’s a lot of fantastic trance music, artists and DJ’s around if you are prepared to dig just a little bit like the folks on here do.
But a lot of promoters are not interesting in digging, they want the DJ’s and music that sells tickets, which at the moment is the 138 uplifting scene.
It’s a vicious cycle where the DJ exposure boosts the sales and the sales boost the DJ exposure.

I somehow find interesting stuff on daily basis since I am trying to be more and more involved into the scene

Another one of the artists who are very well liked/loved here

Not necessarily, if the promoters don't want to book him despite having the connection with JOOF and even with Armin (Airwave was asked to do a GM on Armin's show) then it's something they have any say or control. I would say the uplifting guys who tour the world are running on overdrive and they are going to burn themselves out. I hope things turn around for Airwave although I know from memory Airwave loves producing more than Djing because it's creatively more rewarding for him.

I have seen Airwave twice, quite recently actually, not more than 3-4 years ago I would say...both of these sets were on classics events tho. He played good, the old stuff, he did enjoyed the show. The crowd loved it, but just because he played the old stuff, I guess if he decided to play th new ones, it would be empty as my pants....

Im pretty sure that if a decent producer paid for an agent, theyd get gigs regularily. Some guys like me have never had a manager or agent - and im not bothered about having one either. But if you really wanted gigs, youd go all out to get an agent or whatever you need.

I agree without an agent or you taking over as your own manager it's next to impossible. I started reaching out to labels, promoters, other djs and artists myself, but at some point all of this might become too much if things start picking up. I haven't started yet and a I am already exhausted, but unfortunately I make 0 from music atm and I need my office job too. I signed my first song this week and I don't even have time to celebrate 🤣
