There is nothing wrong with remaking songs but ripping it and copying it and hiding it with some absurd off notes is just desperate and cringy.
I personally think The Music sounds a lot more like Coming on Strong, which was co-written by Scott:

What Ya Got 4 Me predates this but I wouldn't call it a full-on copy and/or rip-off (though it still is indeed similar enough to call it cringey to an extent).

Of course both are inspired by 7 days 1 week.

Armin van Buuren · Jorn van Deynhoven - Lost in Space

The vocalist, the beat and the main melody are all the same. Shogun just added some piano and replaced low-important effects and made the vocals more dramatic so it caught more fire from people.

This was the song that made him very famous. And the rip-off happened a few months after Hiding to Nothing! Shameless!

Ah yes, the proglifting 2010-2013 era of trance started by Shogun's "Skyfire".
I really loved both Beat Service and Shogun and know they've always been similar (my mp3 playlist consisted mainly of their stuff back then), but hard to say it's a rip-off, as so many tunes had that rolling melody 😌
Funny how both artists stopped making that proglifting trance around the same time in 2013 and moved on to more commercial Armada sound.

Madis (the guy behind Beat Service) was producing for Shogun, not a surprise at all.

These two sound kind of similar. It wouldn't surprise me if Richard intentionally took some inspiration from "Serenity" (which is itself an attempt at making another "Adagio For Strings"... but that's just my opinion).

Armin van Buuren feat. Jan Vayne - Serenity

Richard Durand - Sugarphoria

You're right. I knew it was an Armin tune (or one he used to play a lot) but couldn't remember which one I was thinking of. Definitely copied elements from Serenity but I still think Sugarphoria is a great tune.

The melody is different, but the formula, the "riff" and the sounds are quite obvious, that it is at least very inspired by Serenity. Both tracks are wannabe epic and "hard" with that sharp synth, and to me both sound kinda soul-less. Also 100% agreed with "...which is itself an attempt at making another "Adagio For Strings"".

The melody itself is more reminiscent of Tiësto's Elements of Life in my opinion (from 5:00 onward). It's not a direct rip-off, but they do have the same vibe.

Also more "inspired by" than a full-on rip-off, but still worth a mention I think.

From 1l:15 that sounds also like a sample of a similar track from the period, on the top of my tongue.

Okay, I only joined this forum just now because I was googling to see which sets 'Sensual Illusion' by Souls In Motion had been played in, and this thread was somehow among the top results. Anyway, the rhetoric put forward in this thread pissed me off so much I had to create an account just so I could publicly complain about it. Because clearly, not enough people are pushing back.

And to those of you in this thread that have complained about how "creativity is dead", can you even define what creativity is? If you can't, I must unfortunately conclude your arguments have zero intellectual credibility, and that you just miss being young. Don't worry, I too miss being young. In case you wonder how I would define creativity, I'd say it's mainly about noticing the negative spaces in the grander cultural context, which I personally don't think has ever been a "lost art". Any complaint about cultural decline, is to me always a red flag, seeing how often (and sadly, very effectively) they've been used to promote some extremely reactionary politics, trampling on marginalized communities and our general human rights, all in the name of simulating a past that never even existed.

However, if the point you want to make is rather that the trance scene has been too insular and self-referential, I would actually agree. Listen to more jazz. Listen to more hip hop. Listen to the albums that general music critics have been praising. Put another way: be less Beato-pilled and more Fantano-pilled
