They’re putting classics back in them now????
Before I write my overall opinion which is mostly positive, I have to mention now that this has been the worst decision they have made on the last ISOS to like force classics and their remixes in between. Why the hell Matt wasted 20 minutes of his great mix to just play some classics? If I wanted to listen to Eugina I would play ISOS 2!

Matt is absolutely brilliant producer, his last album 'X' was fantastic and he has his own style on the progressive house world. He should have played more of his own tracks, like maybe 'Animus' at the end of the mix, or play some Sultan + Shepard, or Colorize releases etc... than wasting 20 mins by putting some trance classics there we have heard like 20 million times. Seems like someone just forced him to put old tracks at the end. A damn SHAME!!!!:cautious:

To hell with Jam & Spoon remixes as well. We have had enough of this "nostalgia" shit the last ISOS.

But overall I have good words I'll write later. Markus did a great job and I dig his melodic techno style. I still haven't given enough time for Dennis Sheperd mix, which tbh I was surprised to see his fitting somehow to ISOS at first. I'll listen later and make my mind.

----

Matt replied to me
It was my own choice to put these classics into ISOS. I wanted to pay hommage to the series by playing tracks that I grew up with and that inspired me. This is my tribute to Trance music, this is the compilation the little 10 years old me would have loved to make. If you want Progressive, another compilation is coming in a few months. I did ISOS to achieve my ultimate goal in my career.

Fair enough to Matt for including classics and breaking through the “standard” of having only new stuff on what is supposed to be a musical journey.

nice to see the label giving him creative freedom in this aswell

Had a listen to all three, quite enjoyed Matt Fax's mix. The modern tracks are well chosen. Sonin's Cry was a pleasant discovery. I don't mind the classic tracks tagged on at the end. Not the biggest fan of those tracks on their own anyway, but they are mixed in well enough and overall the mix sounds cohesive.

Schulz's and Sheperd's mixes are unremarkable. As with most modern big-room prog trance, the tracks are mixed in and out too quickly. There's not enough time for each track to really sink in. As a result, all of it sounds kinda samey.

I lost my mind when I saw my Matahari remix was on this.

Do they not give you a heads up well in advance or do you find out when the tracklist is released.

Congratulations though, its a nice track and very fitting with the ISOS theme.

a total joke. this has nothing to do with isos

remember old isos? where every track was good? where there was a special journey to unfold?

non of that is found here. a waste of time and merely clickbait to include old tracks. although they are better than all the other "new" tracks which says something.

Email off Solarstone (it was released on Pure Progressive) to let me and Hoopoe know, but nothing from Black Hole/Songbird etc. You rarely find out what's happening with your music. I bought the CD release so I have a copy of a physical release with one of mine on it - that should give you some indication of the state of the 'industry', or rather my place in it I suppose, despite the big support over the years.

Though this is a big moment for me, I've got to agree with most of the other comments, its not awesome. Matt's mix is the most traditional 'ISOS' of the lot in track selection, but I haven't listened to the series in years and only did because I found out I had a track on it. Got 1-7 on CD and didn't bother after that. 100% agree on fast mixing and too many tracks. Thats the EDM bullshit influence creeping in I fear.

Rich is one those People/label managers who has, as long as i've released stuff on his label at least, always been decent, responsive, honest, polite and profesional when it comes to these things.

I respect Matt's choice as I said and I understand him, it is just my strong opinion that new classics have to be made than we take 3-4 positions of new releases to play older nostalgia tracks that were especially already included in OG Tiesto's ISOS. I don't mean we shouldn't play older tracks if they make a great flawless mix, just not the ones that have left their marks in ISOS history.

I love Matt's mix, great intro and outro, the first 40 mins are great, fresh and so ISOS style! Island is a track that feels like it was made for ISOS. His new remixes of trance tracks are neat, this Gouryella remix may be the best and most original one I heard in years! I like the choices and that he preferred to pick fewer tracks but have a smoother mix. Longing Remix gives ISOS 3-4 vibes! Overall brilliant mix. ISOS approved.

Markus delivered a great and different mix! I really, really enjoy it! The melodic techno influence is obvious I dig it. So many beautiful tracks!!!! Some not so much, like fillers... But most importantly the whole mix is nice for me. Big name delivers! He could have chosen less tracks for sure for smoother remix. Like the From the Ridge is so generic imo and definitely not for ISOS close before outro.

Huge surprise here, Dennis Sheperd got it right without too much steroids! I listened his mix 4-5 times already. I waited more steroids, but I glad for what he delivered. His mix have so many melodies, much energy (more than necessary for ISOS imo), some summery ISOS tracks, beautiful vocals etc. I like it and I will keep listening for sure for a long long time.

So, overall it's a fine ISOS release for sure, for me it may be the best in a long long time. For people who compare it with OG ones, just don't or you get disappointed. lol But, since this summer I've been to many beach parties in Greece, let's say that I would fucking love to listen to Markus mix first around 2am, then Dennis at 3-4:30am, and later on Matt's mix. It would be an brilliant journey ISOS with modern trance, melodic techno, progressive house, little steroid trance, energy, melodies, emotions, and even old classics lol.

Too many super tracks to mention.

CD ordered and it will be my first after my OG 7 ISOS CD like @Narel lol. I just want to cry of how horrible the cover/s have been of last ISOS lol. Looks like an amateur made it quickly with Photoshop by using an random image from Unsplash - compare it with Anjuna's covers. Lol

A shame in this case then that I’ve had no reply to my request to Rich for a contract / royalty agreement for this remix. 12 years in and I’m still getting this sort of shit

Really shame about that. If I may ask, if everything seem so abstract where the less known guys are left in the dark, how do you make money when your remix/single is getting released? Shouldn't be a contract or something, discuss the paid amount you will maybe per sell/stream etc??

Also I thought when your track would be picked for such compilation of big label, all the artist were notified. That should be a thing in the past at least when maybe most tracks were exclusive for the comp so the artist know that they shouldn't promote them/play them around.

Anyway, weird. :/

And congrats for putting your name into ISOS, even if it's not what it used to be until 7, it still a big achivement in our genre and your name will always be in our cd library. :)

@jetflag that's very kind of you. (y)

Mate it’s a very variable situation. Some labels are great up front and contact you about a remix or a new original, then follow up with the required contracts - I usually withhold the pre-master of the track/remix until I’ve received this stuff.
Others give you a remix contract but it’s for 0% royalty in which case the original artist get it. I’ve been the original artist on such labels and a remixer, though I think this is shit, I’ve been both a beneficiary and loser from it so, meh.
The worst just steal your music, though these are few it has happened to me several times in the past.
I rarely get notified when my tracks/remixes get put on compilations, I just keep my eye out. Same with plays in sets/radio shows/clubs/festivals.
Rich let Hoopoe and I know about ISOS, but we had already both seen via Beatport.
With regards to ‘making money’ you don’t - not at my level anyway. The only way to actually make $$ is to do the whole package - originals, remixes, DJ, radio shows, synth presets, midi files, DJ tools etc etc, maybe run a label. I’m dad to 3, husband, a principal environmental consultant, diver, Enduro MTB rider, brewer, as well as a producer so I haven’t got time for all that.
Signing to labels was never about $$, it was about contributing to the scene and distribution/exposure, but being taken advantage of is not ok, so I try to get fair treatment if I can. It’s difficult.
