1993 was the year that trance really solidified for me. I'm not sure your average clubgoer would be able to identify trance outside of a very small crowd, but. If you were in the right spot, the euphoric and melodic sounds of trance were just getting rolling. The music from 1993 is really quite amazing for the time and technology, some of which still sounds fresh 30 years later. This mix has some of my favorites, with some flavors of 2023 to spice things up (which was an option for this particular mixcomp). I mean to make mixes for later years at some point, but I suspect they will drip slowly as curating these takes a lot of time. I went through about 2400 tracks to get to this conclusion. So many gems were left out too.

Will have to give this a spin, see a number of ones unknown to me. If you've curated this from 2400 1993 absolute tunage and ended up with 18 tracks, it must be good.

Lol, big pressure there. One of the reasons I like to have a huge pile like that is b/c I think of creating a mix like this as a storytelling exercise. You have all these constraints: the best track list, key, tempo, vibe, genre/subgenre and especially for the 1993 mix, ahead of their time vibes and basis for future tracks (like, were these tracks ripped off majorly and therefore even more important?) The content in 1993 was so strong and creative that you could make this mix 2-3-4 times and end up with similar results, though in reflecting upon the final product vs constraints, it’s the best mix I’ve made. There’s a groovy story in this one that bodes well for repeat listens and I still enjoy it. I’ve done some plotting on 1994 but it’s not likely to emerge for 6months I suspect, and it’s going to take time to figure out the story.

Some great tracks there, can remember playing most of them as 1986 to 1996 was my 'Club DJ' era ;)
Although for my city it was predominate House with a bit of Techno but the track that changed my viewpoint was Jam & Spoon's 'Stella', haven't looked back since

It's quite interesting how our top tracks from 1993 differ so much, with only a few similar picks on the list. But then again, it just goes to show how amazing of a year 1993 really was (plus I haven't listened to all tracks from this year yet). Also, thank you for reminding me of The Weeping Waste and Fragile. These are among the top tracks of the year, and I only discovered them maybe a month or two ago but somehow I forgot about them. Now I add them to my curated list. I think I found both on YouTube as recommendations originally, but for some reason, The Weeping Waste in not on YouTube anymore (no search results for it).
