I don't know why, but I decided to give the new AvB album a quick listen on Soundcloud.
1. This track sounds like some other boring Talla 2XLC / Binary Finary rework of any trance classic ever. This is a popular trend. It even has that "ah" sample like in "Binary Finary - 1998" (to please the boomers I guess).
2. Main melody progression is kinda like System F feat. AvB - Exhale, but 100 times more boring and retarded.
Whenever I listen to this shitty EDM I always think of some fucking kids dancing around a Christmas Tree, or some fucking Barbie girl riding a pink car with this shit in the background. I HATE THIS CHEESE! I hate how this is still called fucking state of Trance!
Whenever I hear this I imagine Tomorrowland crowd waving their fucking flags, or some girls making hearthands (like in that meme) with duckfaces and Instagrams/TikToks turned on for recording 15 second-pointless-selfie-videos.
At least the soundcloud hashtag is "dAnCe 🥴 ", and not trance.
Damn Uplifted going in like daysleeper style no holdung back haha

This song was ranked 9th in ASOT TOP 1000 2024 Edition. wow o_O:oops:
I think the list needs no discussion with likely 100+ Armin tracks and (even more laughable) 20+ Ruben de Ronde tracks.

I mean. Ruben de Ronde rates higher than countless classics? RAMsterdam is the best trance record ever made? Rofl.

Did anyone vote for it though? @Archon
@Archon
It wasn't the worst tune I've heard all year, but it was pretty close. Horrible generic track. It takes four producers to create a sound that is comparable to what an AI generator prompt can make nowadays. Same goes for that awful remix of OceanLab - Satellite by A&B. Truly shit being produced by these big names.
AI can make better tracks than these people. Which is saying a lot.

So, do you think this list is rigged? Or influenced in a way that the LCD only votes for these clowns?

It's not even their melody 🤣

overall this was one of the most shameful moments in the history of ASOT

I find the most ironic that 'Anticipation' was released on Ferry's label and he was in the studio congratulating these two fake clowns. Guess there's no way to not make any ugly moves if you wanna stay on top.

No, I think voting audience is simply very different from ‘us’.

The average trance listener ( I mean those who listen to for example Solarstone and old classics) are 30-60 year old males.

Do you think this group votes for a list? I don’t think so. It’s people with kids and jobs who have hard time keeping up with the scene.

So that leaves Armins fans. And I think a good portion is younger. And more female as well. The popstar followers, kind of. Fans who paid 250 euro to be on the Armin Discord….

Those people blindly fill in 10 Armin singles and then send their entry. They vote for their idol, not for a song.

Ramsterdam is an ‘omg Armin cried’ (at Untold Festival) social media classic that is hyped all the time, despite it being a rip off. But for the current gen Armin fans, it’s ‘holy’.

Like… Tiesto cried at innercity. It’s somehow similar. Not in our eyes, but in theirs.

This is what it feels like, is for a lot of new fans the first thing they heard from Armin. So nostalgia plays a roll (just like it plays a roll for us, when voting for 1999-2000 trance). Its their “Armins break through record!!”, but in our eyes its a mid-career radio song, like many

It’s all the same happened to the DJ Mag list. The trance nerds (us) had a major vote for years. But it’s taken over by pop youth who vote for Garrix and Guetta. I mean, even Kygo was in the list after scoring a hit, and he never even deejayed at all. But people voted 😂

It will only get worse and worse. Currently there are still ‘actual classics’ in it. But it will be less and less. The perception about how big Veracocha is compared to Blah Blah Blah is changing (already).

gotta face it mate, trance (as we knew it) is pretty much a dead scene. :)

Ramsterdam is in my top 100 of all time...i dont care if it rips the melody...its a better, more emotional and powerful track in all regards...and it has one of the best chord changes in Trance history.

But yeah, most of this list is voted by Armin fanboys, but its his show!! I cant think of one Ruben de Ronde classic track haha.

chord changes
I'm not a musical theory nerd, but isn't this track fairly basic?

The chord progression doesn't do much special for me. It feels very standard to me. I mean, those piano notes sound nice and pleasant. But not... very original or daring. Just... basic. If I compare it to say LostLegend - Running Man. Now that has an interesting chord progression.

Imo there's a lot more atmosphere in Anticipation, with more background layers, more subtlety.

Some of the best ever tracks are very basic - Galaxia and Out Of The Blue il name off the top of my head. This is all to do with personal taste anyway...
