Did trance ever have any "scandals?"

🤷‍♂️ she is free to be a left leaning activist if she so desires/believes. I have no problem with that.

If, however, she starts throwing F-bombs and bullshit-arguments around, She is going to be called out on that.
Sure, people can decide for themselves what they believe/desire.

Sasha appears to hold a negative opinion of Ferry Corsten, having called Corsten's mixes "frothy and shallow" and "the electronic equivalent of Britney Spears," and discouraging people from buying them in a 2005 review for PopMatters. Sasha contrasts Corsten's work with other artists he finds more interesting and sublime, such as Can, My Bloody Valentine, Plastikman, and Underworld.

Sasha's Criticism of Ferry Corsten

  • "Frothy and shallow":
Sasha describes Corsten's music as lacking depth.
  • "Electronic equivalent of Britney Spears":
He implies that the music is simplistic and lacks substance, similar to pop music.
  • Discouraging purchase:
Sasha advises readers against buying Corsten's mixes, suggesting it would only encourage him.
  • Preference for other artists:
He recommends other artists like Can, My Bloody Valentine, and Underworld for a more profound and mind-expanding listening experience.

There's no mention about Sasha criticizing Ferry Corsten in the article. Are those from SlopGPT?
No not from chatgpt it's in this article from 2005 which I did reference and he was referencing the 2005 mix compilation from Ferry Corsten Passport.

At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, I really think that the kids plunking down their hard-earned money for CDs like this would be better served by exploring something with a bit more heft to it. This is frothy and shallow, the electronic equivalent of Britney Spears, without even the dubious charm imparted by some of Ms. Spears’ more adventurous producers. If you really want to hear something that induces altered states of consciousness through trance-like repetition and waves of otherworldly noise, but which doesn’t make you feel stupider with every passing second, check out Can’s Tago Mago or My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless — two rock records that would certainly get the thumbs-up from any chemically-enhanced raver in the land. Try some Plastikman — Consumed is especially mind-expanding.

When I first heard trance I quite liked it. Then, about five minutes later, the charm wore off when the next song kicked in and I realized “hey, this one sounds just like the last one…” To say that trance is formulaic would be an insult to music which is legitimately formulaic. The Ramones followed a rigid formula, after all, but it wasn’t one that ever got particularly boring. Some of the best pop artists across the whole range of genres create music that could be conceivably referred to as formulaic without any real pejorative connotations. No, the problem with trance is that in addition to being formulaic and repetitive, it is also just damned boring.

I don't see a need to remind everyone of a tragedy, especially as it's hard enough for the friends and family. It's public - so what? No need to be distasteful. No need to trade in speculation or misinterpretation. No need to bring it up, even. Trance producers are people as well, and they also visit this place. Try to put yourselves in their shoes.

I'll be redacting your posts.

In a press release from June 2018, Sutorius announced that at the end of May he had severed ties with Vanderkleij Agency, Sebastiaan Molijn and Eelke Kalberg over mismanagement and career negligence claims, adding he discovered Molijn and Kalberg together with Vanderkleij Agency registered the trademark "Dash Berlin" under their own names. The following year, in March 2019, Kalberg and Molijn released the first single as Dash Berlin without Sutorius, Locked Out Of Heaven.
In a joint statement from June 2019, it was announced that Molijn and Kalberg together with Vanderkleij Agency decided to end their part in the Dash Berlin project to focus on new musical projects, with Sutorius becoming the solo artist behind Dash Berlin. At the same time, he regained access to the project's social media accounts.
However, on March 29, 2021, Jeffrey Sutorius announced via Dash Berlin's social media profiles that a legal statement issued the preceding week sentenced that the Dash Berlin trademarks must be transferred back to the former partners in the project, and as of March 17 he could not perform under the Dash Berlin name anymore.
On April 19, 2022, Dash Berlin's management has announced Ryan Fieret as the new frontman

Did anyone read Airwave's recent post about Tiesto playing a rework of 69 ways and him not giving permission etc?

"Take this as a punch in the face or not. This says reflects the state of our society and how creators are trampled on without any scruples.

This remake has been circulating for several months without my permission. I refused it at the time but it got into the hands of you know who.

This thing is getting millions of views and I won’t see a dime. While I made it... in 2000. And that exploitation is sorely inadequate.

Lawyer? Not even worth it, it will cost more than it will bring. The curse? Picking up, and ten years behind as usual. The editor? Reluctant to act, understandable nowadays given the low income and interested people who have some influence.

I’ve decided to give up music for the past year and a half because of people stealing all my income and it’s affecting my mental health. And here, even though I am in law, I also decided to let it go. My creative rights are not even defensible because of a system that favors the patriarchy. Oh well.

Labels, publishers and artists who are responsible for this fraud continue to graze us with impunity and you consumers are fooled without even realizing it.

It's because of people like this that people like me are discouraged. Don't you ever forget it"

So he is basically bemoaning the fact that, as an original artist/inventor/creator, his "intellectual property" so to speak, can be used and build upon by any bootlegger, or artist. It has for lack of a better term, entered the public domain.

now...if you are, like Laurent, financially dependent on your music. Yeah...I can imagen that sucks.. Fair enough..

That said..

it was this part:

system that favors the patriarchy
that made me laugh out loud in my chair.

I don't know where Laurent gets his feminist theory from but the very idea of "intellectual capitalist ownership".... (especially the idea of permanent ownership instead of an act of learning post hoc the original copyright act of 1790, that laurent seems to be calling upon in his defense here....)

is Patriarical as fuck. 😄

Especially under the second wave of feminism in at around the 1940's, and don't get me started on the post-modernist third, who are skeptical of the very concept of ownership full stop. The very, dare i say "capitalist" idea of claiming an idea, like a melody, for yourself is not something you would sell well to someone like Mitchell, Hartman or Craig for that matter.

is this still about the 'Bonzai' controversy regarding his copyright ownership? or is he simply regretting his refusal because he is now losing out on money?.)

I have asked him many times before that I wanted to buy his entire discography off him directly

Who knows? But it's not our place to question these things because it's a personal problem. I think he is just not happy with the DJs where they just took his tracks and made millions whilst leaving him with nothing.

wait what? since when it's illegal or even unethical to play unofficial remixes (aka bootlegs) without a permission of the original track author? with all the (little) respect, airwave can put his permission up his arse, he's just bitter of not making easy money from that

BTW I also remember a friend of mine making a bootleg of Airwave's track and putting it on his SoundCloud (no download enabled) and posting on his Facebook, purely of the admiration for the original track. And Airwave came there in comments saying exact same thing something like "I don't approve this, take it down". what a sad little man

Nothing wrong with wanting something you made to be respected by fellow creatives, and given some recognition/payment of your original effort or idea. Fair is fair.

for over a century.. at least since the US Copyright Act of 1909 (which explicitly covered derivative works like remixes/adaptations)

its a bit like en-mass picknicking on the grass in a public park when there's a sign that reads "no food allowed"...mid june in summer Amsterdam..

no..the police is not going to come in and en-mass arrest everyone forcefully....
yes..it is tenatively sort of tolerated as most people aren't bothered by it...
Yes..it is written in law that..when someone does, there is a legal framework in place to tackle such a dispute.
no..the framework is not very effective, quite cumbersome..and usually a big waste of money spend on littegation trolls.
