So far the section does what I was afraid of: pretty random tracks that arent famous at all get posted.
Doesn't seem too bad to me if i'm honest, many I agree deserve to be in there.
I don't think popularity of a track should be any criteria for posting, in either section. As I mentioned already there were countless unknown gems in the previous classic section which had no scene notoriety or success at all, yet they are magical pieces of old style Trance music and deserve to be in there. I loved that section for these discoveries, popularity really means nothing to me. In fact popularity is usually an indicator of poor quality in my eyes, especially 2010 onwards.
But I think your quote above highlights the problem with managing a forum section with the emphasis or concern of popularity rather than era/time period. It's too subjective and impractical for managing a section. General popularity does not equal quality. It also sets a pre-condition for the exclusion quality that is unknown, which is not good. On top of that, my own personal sentiments of what is classic and popular for me may be completely different from you, so another level of complication is added, and the sentiments you express above come to fruition.
Ultimately I don't think it's a concern. Users will continue to post music that is important and quality to them based on their own interpretations/feelings and that's fine by me, it doesn't have to be a perfect section. I for one am very happy we now have a section to explore quality I may have missed from the last decade. Music and semantics is a messy mix and any requirements based on semantics is too much to expect any sort uniformity in user behaviour. As long as I have a way to easily explore and browse old vs new quality music then I'm happy. Sorting things by period is an objectivity that gives a good, clear foundation for that to happen.
