Yeah, the S8&T mix is like the usual a&b generic housey/edm/bigroom/trouse stuff. The first track is good, the rest is pure horseshit (more or less). How the F is this an ISOS mix?? Beyond me

I completely forgot that they release a new mix every Wednesday lol maybe is it because of the lack of hype I have when discovering the names of the DJs?
From your posts it all seems rotten, even the supposed York tracklist.

sad to see nobody picked up this one for the mix

Would love to have seen the underground sounds make an appearance, especially due to how may mixes there are. Can you imagine if the A&R for the label made an attempt to bring in some names like Mikkel Rev, Bliss Inc, Dylan Forbes, Rambal etc and tried to get some very trancey stuff from them. I wonder if the veterans of the scene are even plugged into the underground anymore and whats going on, feels completely detached.

Don't you know we don't know anything trance or ISOS in general and the producers/djs are the ones that dictate what we should listen to at the end of the day. I am kinda surprise by the honesty by some of the people already listed on here. I thought they would hold back but it's nice to see that the producers who are trancefix member didn't hold back on their criticism.

Loving the discussion here! I was talking about Gen Z as they are propably the biggest factor for the industry atm gaining money, no? And mainly edm shit is succesful. It’s the old question, what happened to trance… Durand had a really hard job when he took over. Relating to mixes on isos lately, do the responsible persons at Blackhole/ Songbird/ wherever want to make their flagship more popular, or is it still a product for the … let’s call it traditional listener? I think they try both. But it lacks. Good point with younger producers like Mikkel Rev etc. I mean, Activa’s Movement CD in 2023 was so much better than most of here. I am open-minded for young, less popular artists. Think of 20-year-old James Holden back then. He was groundbreakin, I would say even too smart for the trance industry.

The answer is indeed no, Gen Z really doesn't care about the current EDM scene. Just look at the streams of big festivals like Tomorrowland and UMF, you'll see it's mostly Gen Y mixed with a little bit of late Gen X.

Dance music as a whole just isn't as popular with us as it used to be back in the 90's and the 00's, mostly thanks to the decline of radio and because of streaming services allowing you to listen to whatever you want instead of just what's popular. The only dance music most Gen Z'ers care about are certain songs from the EDM boom in the early 10's (like Animals by Martin Garrix, Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia, Levels by Avicii and so on) and the occasional song from the 80's or 90's that got popular thanks to a meme. They'll say "hey I recognise this" when it comes to songs released after 2016 but if it isn't Without You by Avicii, they will not be able to tell you what its name is and will likely ask you to repeat the artist when you tell them because they don't know how to spell it.

So, about trance and Gen Z's influence on the genre: none of us know about it, no fusions with techno, (melodic) house or any other combination will make us care and the only way to remind us it even exists it is if someone happens to use it for something we consider the "funniest shit you've ever seen".

m8 have you visited any hard techno parties lately? lol
The small part of Gen Z that does like EDM is into the harder styles yes, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't given that I visited Mysteryland last week solely for HI-LO and Charlotte de Witte so yeah 😅

What I'm saying is true though, the majority of Gen Z isn't particularly interested in the current dance music industry and listens either to their personal pool of comfort songs or to whatever Spotify is presenting them without much further thought. Even if I'm somehow wrong about my own demographic here, I highly doubt our influence is greater than that of the millenials.

Sure, but it’s equally true that the majority of gen x and millennials aren’t / weren’t into edm either m8. :) If you compare the global hiphop, rock or pop scenes of 1990’s till 2010’s in terms of numbers/ listeners to what was going on edm wise it is and has always been a niche field

which is fine imo,

Only listened to Solarstones mix so far…. Awesome! The Aerium and Julian track is the best on the mix, but I also like the William Bryne remix a bunch too.

Reading all these posts makes me want to set up a thread and ask the producer/DJs here to do their own 'ISOS' mix,if they were asked to do one haha. Im tempted to attempt it.

That would be a good idea! Def get some artwork from me and of course promo from the forum!

Making an ISOS-style mix using old music is too easy, then there must be a condition to use tracks only of the current year, and the mission becomes impossible)
