@Magdelayna But the big challenge here is to make an ISOS mix with only, relatively, new tracks and not oldschool classics. As @Unjungle said above, I also loved Matt Fax mix except the last selections of classic tracks. I also wrote him on twitter about it, it was a big boring choice imo.

as for current mixes, I really enjoy Solarstone's mix for sure, many many great tracks and great flaw. Then Airscapes has some nice tracks but not so good ISOS flaw overall and dunno how many times I'll ever go back to it. Super8 & Tab has again some nice tracks, but overall the whole mood has nothing to do with the theme. So much baga baga and anjuna generic energy that is murderous to be an ISOS mix. I haven't found the time to sit down and listen to York's yet. I also don't have any big hopes for ZOYA.

After ~15 years of trance/electronic fan, people underestimate how hard it is to be a great DJ, to have a great ear for tracks and narratives, to be able to fit correctly to themes and series and specific events. Youngers think a good producers make a good DJ on tomorrowland, and sadly they push people become good producers and not focus on being a GREAT DJ. This is why you see experienced producers of failing miserably time after time to make proper mix compilations. The scene does not give the spotlight to just DJs.

Leon Bolier - BLR would be a GREAT fit tbh, especially with his style the last years, and even more the last releases he makes like Endless, his Colorize release etc.

Im not really interested in using new tracks...theres no real ISOS feeling for me...i had to go back in time...imo nothing will ever beat Tiesto's ISOS 2.

I totally respect that, it's like a overview ISOS mix, Durand also did it once. I meant in general, if the guys here that wanted to make an ISOS mix, could give the challenge to themselves to make a proper ISOS mix with only relatively new tracks. That is the hard task the selected artists of modern ISOS have.

You nailed it. What is a ‚dj‘ has changed a lot mainly due to social media enforcements, I think. I got some hope since it is popular again even for big players to do open to close sets.

And I dont‘t want to judge about gen z @Gijs. atm (!) in sum younger festival people are there for the bass drop and not for a consistent progression and narration because it‘s popular, it‘s the current mainstream, it‘s why producers/labels feed them - and in any generation since 90s trance this was the same changement/movement all the time, probably.

And let‘s be honest in the end, ISOS never was an underground trance compilation as some people suppose. Even my own wishful memories and thinking sometimes.

@Jetflag: in complete agreement with your list. Would love to listen to your narration!

@Magdelayna: will give it a proper listen, thank you!

ZOYA mix. Sounds even better than I expected, much better than the mix from York. Sentimental sad motifs, overall, there is a whole atmosphere in the mix. Everything is mixed with classics, and it does not stand out from the overall modern style of the mix. But I don't like modern progressive house, for me it's music for one listening. ZOYA style and music are not for me.

Just listened the Gielen mix and it is not bad actually. Does it have ISOS vibes? Nope. But not a bad mix overall.

No one talking about similar Tom Bro - Balearic Islands is to Oliver Prime - Nimbus.....

Balearic Islands

Nimbus

The build up melody is soooo similar, even the way the synth used and key changes. Instantly felt familiar.

Cos not many people have heard it. I have not heard it but yeah that sounds like a copy cat. Very similar to Glen Morrison copying Envio - Touched by the sun

I have listened to the mixes during its release and here is my take:

Solarstone's mix was okay, at least one of the decent mixes I've heard since ISOS 7
Standout tracks: Aerium & Juilan Del Agranda - Flawless
Sinful Biz & Facade - Captivate
Sean Tyas & Enigma State - Lately (Azure Mix)
Orkidea - Dance Of Life

Gielen's take is just so-so. There are some standout tracks (his tracks slightly fit the vibe), but the mixing is quite rough and some tracks are out of place
Standout tracks: Airscape - Beach Pearl (Intro Mix)
David Broaders - Interplanetary
Johan Gielen & Pierre Pienaar - Benguela

S8&T, nope. Does not fit the ISOS concept to be honest, especially the last 2 tracks. No standout tracks for this one unfortunately.

York's take is somewhat mixed. Starts off well, but as it progresses it lost its edge.
Standout tracks: ReLocate & Simon Anthony - Skylight
Torsten Stenzel - Interstellar (York's Back In Time Mix)

ZOYA, nope. No standout tracks also.

I wonder who would be the last guest mixer for this?

TIJESTOH! For a final zeurprize cumbakc!!!
To be honest, why not? ;)

With a few VER:WEST tracks. Would be cool.

Would be even more funny if it was a mindblowing Dennis Waakop Tiesto magikal experience. Haha.

And then... after extreme praise from trance community... simply leave it like that and continue with The Business aka EDM crap.

I would love it too, but the only reason it would be impossible now, is that there is not a single chance for Tiesto and his team to accept being part of multiple artists compilation. For a future exclusive ISOS release, why not, especially as he ages, he may find meaning back to quality trance/progressive again and not the baga baga.

Nimbus is one of, if not the, biggest Oliver Smith standalone track - lots of people have heard it

Tbh, I always feel like - as I make (kind of) music myself... my opinion on such matters is "worthy".

And imo... This isn't a rip-off at all.... I get that the few notes are kinda the same style. But comon', it's just those few notes. In a different key. The synth isn't that similar either. And the track as a whole is completely different. I doubt the track was even inspiration for it.

There's thousands of tracks, there will be similarities. It's often quite obvious when something is really "ripped off" like First State did a decade ago. But gentle similarities, you'll always find those.
