I'm the world's most idiotic man. And the biggest impulse buyer.
I've been looking into kind of switching up my shaving kit. I don't trim very often because I don't have a full beard, so I shave every couple of days instead (sometimes I let it grow out for two weeks or so, just for change).
For years I've been using cartridge/disposable razors. It's quick and painless, but they last very little and cost quite much over time. Plus, the shave is subpar. Then I got myself an electric shaver, and while providing a closer shave, it got me irritated so much, especially under the chin and mid-neck. Avoid.
Straight razors were
straight out of the picture. Expensive and tough to master made it a no-brainer. Best leave that to the pros.
So... I came upon safety razors. I know my grandpa used one all the time, and I remember he always had a cut or two from it. But I found a really cheap one, just to try it, so I did. The shave is better, although the irritation is still there (but significantly less than with an electric shaver), plus I'm starting to feel it can't really be avoided.
Ever since, I had my eye out for a more expensive one, which I said to myself I'd buy from my first salary, to sort of treat myself. It's 25$, to sort of round it up. It's not much in first-world money, but it kinda is a luxury in a developing country if you're not employed.
So I headed to the store today with every intent of buying a shaving soap and a shaving brush only, just to try that out too, since it was cheap and I wouldn't regret it if it sucked. But since I was in the shaving section, I noticed
the razor, together in a pack with a shaving gel and 5 blades, for 18$. If I bought each one of those apart, it would amount to 40$. What a deal! I had to call up the girl who was working there just to confirm my initial shock. And I've been following the prices too, these things haven't gotten more expensive overnight to make it seem like a great deal (Black Friday anyone?). Alright alright, even at 18$ it's hard to think they aren't at least covering their costs, but still...
A no-brainer. Put it in the cart, and while I was standing at the register, giving my card to the girl, I instantly regretted it.
Is this really what I need? Could've bought wipers for my car, or even an oil and air filter. Or maybe a T-shirt or two, or a hoodie. Or how about a pair of earphones? Any one of those things I needed more than this, or at least had more use for. But I just thought I needed this so much, more than anything else. Impulse over logic.
That said, the razor looks awesome and the gel smells absolutely incredible. Can't wait to get up tomorrow and try it!
