I know this teethgrinds a lot of people, but given the nature of their position, The skeptics are not obliged to provide answers. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Yet the skeptics have so far been extensive and enthusiastic in their contributions. Famous skeptic Mick West has been well engrossed and integrated into the discussion, as has Shermer...appearing on tv, talking on podcasts, writing articles, going extensively through cases and data. They clearly feel obliged to provide all sort of things, and rightly so, uncovering the truth itself is in its self an obligation. So donā€™t act like they are above all this, when they themselves don't behave in such ways.

I think that the age old problem off 100 % proof or whichever percentage it is that pretty much guarantees proof, is the thing that stops people believing and waiting for indisputable evidence.

With all the pictures/ videos or recalls of what people have seen -( or think they saw) off which there must be thousands and thousands . I just think that if there hasnā€™t been a clear non arguable proof that aliens have visited us, then having such faith or belief canā€™t itself be justified. Theres no point in believing in Aliens ( and perhaps anything for that matter) just because itā€™s fascinating or because you so ā€˜hopeā€™ itā€™s real. Or even because something may statistically be somewhat likely to exist. There are lots of variables that have to be added to statistics sometimes that would reduce the likelihood anyhow. Just depends how thorough the calculations are depending on the purpose on presenting them. For example, politicians or government bodies/ organisations will often use statistics that miss elements.

Nope, all they have to do is refute.

Theyā€™re under no obligation to prove anything, let alone a negative.

the burden of proof rests on the shoulders of the claim makers/ believers.

and youā€™re not gonna get a pin between that no matter how unfair you feel that might be/ how badly you want too

Itā€™s not the amount of evidence, itā€™s the quality of it.

a mountain of blurry and vague pictures the size of Mount Everest is still just blurry and vague and doesnt meet the burden.

more over. The quality of said pictures and vids has remained the same, despite massive leaps in technology.

testimonies equally hold no water, since you would then have to acknowledge demons exist aswell.

you wanting to believe, does not make it so m8. Sorry šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I'm still absolutely baffled by how many people think eye witness testimony is like a certified mark of proof. Even when in court with hand on the Bible, you can still lie about everything. "BUT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LIE UNDER OATH" - no shit, Sherlock, you're not allowed to kill either, but murder is still a thing.
I don't care if there are 1.000 blurry images or 1.000.000 = it's all just blurry, crappy images despite we have 4K camera's in our pockets.

It's almost as if Aliens are only interested in English speaking countries. How fucking fortunate, eh.

ESRI is an American website, appearing in American search engines, using the english language. Of course there is a skew. What do you think China's reporting system map would look like? Are Americans reporting their sightings to a Chinese company? Cmon this is basic scrutiny.

Do you honestly think the skew is this massive? Dude, like 99% of the dots are in the US

Yes because It's an American data collection company, that uses the english language. Why do you think the UK is the brightest on Europe? If the Danish began a database for the public to submit UFO reports to what do you think the majority of people submitting will be? It would be all Danish, obviously. It's not going to appear in my US search engine results, and even if by some chance it did I wouldn't be able to read it anyway.

There are no UFOs in Soviet Russia!
M8ā€¦Google ā€œanapa ufo sightingsā€ through a Russian Google translate for shits and giggles and then humbly come back to that statement. šŸ˜‚

goes for you to @Katadunkass, :p

Russians love a good conspiracy theory

I can tell you, the Danish public UFO map will consist of 1 sighting from a dude in Copenhagen, high of meth. Sorry, but we're not really all that into probing our behinds like the US. Perhaps aliens just know more about the kinky fetishes in the States

Apparently not. Remember there are 25 million people in australia compared to 330 million in the US. It's another bit of basic scrutiny that makes it logical why the US will be a much brighter visualization than Australia. Relatively the proportion of reporting to population density may even be similar (hard to tell from this). And of course all the population in Australia is by the coast, hence the vast swathes of blackness in the country.

Michio Kaku disagrees, who obviously is smarter and more astute than we could hope to ever demonstrate.

It's not proving a negative as you keep saying. UAP's can only be like 5 things. Alright, so they are not alien, then it's one of the 4 other things, an animal, a weather event, conventional vehicles or a conspiracy. The majority overwhelmingly says its not human, so if the minority is gonna say that's wrong then lucky for you you got 4 other great options to easily give evidence for to disprove it. It's the exact process NASA is taking and what the skeptics are doing too. You've invented your own strange rules that thankfully not a single person, group or institution is following.

This is my biggest gripe.

As Iā€™ve said a few times, Iā€™d love for this all to be true, but thereā€™s only so far you can get with endless grainy film clips, partially redacted documents and ambiguous ā€˜witnessā€™ testimony before you have to ask where the real proof is.

Until that is forthcoming, I think skepticism is the sensible option here.

Weā€™ve been over this at length before.

argumentum ad veracundeum

wrong, the overwhelming majority sais ā€œUNKNOWNā€ which, at this point in time, is the only (intellectually) honest answer to give.

so if the minority is gonna say that's wrong then lucky for you you got 4 other great options to easily give evidence for to disprove it. It's the exact process NASA is taking and what the skeptics are doing too.
šŸ˜… nope, the skeptics donā€™t nor do they need to.

they can comfortably kick back at the position theyā€™re holding which is: ā€œprove your claimā€

sorry šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø but itā€™s not up to us to confirm your (wish to) belief/ve

You've invented your own strange rules that thankfully not a single person, group or institution is following.
Actually that was Aristotle when he invented modern logic about two centuries ago, which in fact every science institute ( and their aforementioned ā€œ unknownā€ conclusion) thankfully is following.

again, itā€™s not up to them to stroke your preferred beliefs, thatā€™s not how it works m8.. sorry

It was a joke m8 šŸ˜…. You did notice the smirk emoji there no?

the point still stands however. No amount of testimonial evidence, especially not the current number and overall generalness of the combined overall claims make it sufficient as proof.

you can overlay a map of sightings of spirits, nightly visitations by angels/ demons etc. And youā€™d end up with the same lightshow šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
